Joe Koester
Joe, a native of Northern Kentucky, represents the second generation of family at Herzog Jewelers. After completing his Bachelor’s degree in Economics at Eastern Kentucky University, Joe began a career with General Electric. Following his marriage to Valera Herzog, Joe elected to leave General Electric and join the family business alongside his father-in-law and founder of Herzog Jewelers, Elmer T. Herzog. After eight years of continued success, Elmer retired and Joe purchased the family business. In an effort to better serve his clientele, Joe decided to move the store from its original location in Covington, KY to a larger, more convenient location in Fort Mitchell, KY. During this time, Joe also received his Graduate Gemologist degree from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) and his Certified Gemologist degree from the American Gem Society (AGS). Joe is credited for building the business to what it represents today.
Joe oversees the overall operations of the store as well as Herzog Jeweler’s extensive involvement in the community. He serves on several boards throughout the community such as the Saint Elizabeth Foundation Board, the Retail Jewelers Organization Board and the KEMI Board. In his spare time, Joe enjoys traveling and working on his farm growing over two-hundred tomato plants in the summer and giving them away to customers.
Ted Koester
Born and raised in Northern Kentucky, Ted represents the third generation of family at Herzog Jewelers and the grandson of Elmer T. Herzog, founder of Herzog Jewelers. After graduating from Marquette University with a degree in Economics, Ted continued his education by earning a Graduate Gemologist degree from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in Santa Monica, California. Ted also earned a Certified Gemologist degree from the American Gem Society (AGS) in 1996. After retaining his degrees, Ted went to work in Charlotte, North Carolina at a family friend’s jewelry store. This internship allowed Ted to learn the jewelry business from a different perspective. Upon the completion of his internship, Ted returned to Fort Mitchell to continue the family tradition.
Ted, now Vice-President of Herzog Jewelers, works beside his father in the day-to-day operations and is responsible for all diamond purchasing and system operations of the store. During his career, Ted has traveled all over the world on purchasing trips and has spent multiple summers living and studying in the diamond capital of the world, Antwerp, Belgium. Ted enjoys all the different aspects of operating a family operation and continues the tradition of community involvement by serving on the Cincinnati Ballet Board and assisting with the Carnegie Visual + Performing Arts Center. In his free time, Ted enjoys boating, walking Dixie (his golden retriever) and target shooting.
